A wonderful original piece of artwork from France in 1800.  The picture is of a lovely young woman looking serenely off into the distance.  I believe the work may be pastel, or a colored chalk, not sure but it is extremely well done.  The frame is original to the picture and the backing as well.  The provenance is denoted on the back (see photos).  Dated 20 Sept. 1800 and the name of the sitter.  Framed size:  14″  x 14 3/4″.  Picture size is 9″ x 9 1/2″.  There is some gesso loss on the frame, several small chips on the right side of the frame and most notable is the inner border at the top center of the picture, which measures 2″ across.  There is also some very light water staining on the bottom of the girl’s dress.  I believe it is also the original old glass as well.
